Dear,

Does the INSPIRE Geoportal validator (http://inspire-geoportal.ec.europa.eu/validator2/) supports the validation of metadata in ISO 19115-2?

We encounter a problem with our metadata xml using the following schema/heading:

<gmi:MI_Metadata xmlns:gmd="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/gmd"  xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"  xmlns:gss="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/gss"xmlns:gml="http://www.opengis.net/gml/3.2" xmlns:gco="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/gco" xmlns:gmx="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/gmx"xmlns:gmi="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/gmi" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"  xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/gmi http://www.isotc211.org/2005/gmi/gmi.xsd">

Thanks,

Martine

Dear Martine ,

as the INSPIRE Technical Guidelines do not yet contemplate  the use of ISO 19115-2 for metadata, the INSPIRE Validator 2 does not support it.

Best regards,

Angelo

Dear Angelo,

Thanks for the quick response.

I see that the ISO 19115-2 for metadata is not supported however this is a very important extension for our data and for many other remote sensing data.

And in the INSPIRE Metadata Implementing Rules (Version 1.2)  (http://inspire.ec.europa.eu/documents/Metadata/INSPIRE_MD_IR_and_ISO_v1_2_20100616.pdf) to which the INSIPRE validator refers for relevant documentation I find the following in section 3.2 Resources MetadataSet

Do you have any idea when the ISO 19115-2 will be supported?

Is this on the roadmap?

Thanks,

Martine

Dear Martine,

WOW, you are right.

I will see what I can do.

The INSPIRE Geoportal has been designed to be flexible when it comes to different encodings, so, it is definitely not a problem.

Could you please upload here a sample file?

Best regards,

Angelo

I attached the example.

For us it is important to implement the ISO 19115-2 standard.

We want to comply to the Analysis Ready Data for Land (CEOS) http://ceos.org/ard/files/CARD4L_Product_Specification-Surface_Temperature-v3.1.pdf

Dear Martine,

It looks like a piece of cake, in the end.

In addition, Member States retain the right to use whatever encoding they wish, to deliver all the required metadata elements.

I must note at this point that the other requirement is that you have to be able to deliver the metadata through the National/Regional Discovery Services.

At the moment, the only way documented in the Technical Guidelines for Discovery Services is via an OGC CSW 2.0.2 with the ISO AP 1.0 profile.

Of course, also this can be overridden, since we are talking about Technical Guidelines and not the Regulations.

Have you already verified that you National/Regional Discovery Service can deliver your metadata?

Best regards,

Angelo

Dear Angelo,

how can I check this?

Do you have a url link or website where this can be done?

Kind regards,

Martine

Dear Martine,

Belgium, has 4 Discovery Services registered in the INSPIRE Geoportal.

You can find them listed in the table here below.

You should identify the one you think should serve your metadata.

Then, I will try to connect you to the person managing the service.

Best regards,

Angelo

Dear Martine,

this week, I expect to be able to publish the update that will enable the INSPIRE Geoportal to support gmi:MI_Metadata

I will update again this issue when done.

Best regards,
Angelo

Dear Martine,

it has been indeed quite easy.

I have validated your metadata record internally and no errors were reported (just a couple of warnings).

You even got the priority dataset tags right:

I will tell you once the modifications reach production.

Best regards,

Angelo

Dear Martine,

as I wrote before, the latest guideines have dropped support for MI_Metadata.

You should contact the MIG-T representative for your Country so that the issue can be brought to the attention of the MIG-T.

The list of MIG-T representatives here:  https://inspire.ec.europa.eu/MIG-T-Representatives and here are those for Belgium:

Belgium Nathalie Delattre Nathalie.Delattre@ngi.be
Belgium Ouns Kissiyar ouns.kissiyar@kb.vlaanderen.be

Hello Angelo and Martine,

I wanted to know whether there has been changes in the use of ISO19115-2 (e.g. gmi:MI_Metadata) for INSPIRE-compliant Metadata production.
I'm studying the combination of an ERDDAP server with a GeoNetwork as an INSPIRE-compliant system for storing and providing datasets. However ERDDAP uses ISO19115-2 making it difficult to have a proper harvesting of the ERDDAP Metadata by GeoNetwork.

If it is not planned to accept the use of ISO19115-2, do you have hints on how to properly convert ERDDAP Metadata to INSPIRE-compliant Metadata?

Thanks in advance for your help,

N. de Ville
