6.2 Short description

The INSPIRE registry provides a central access point to a number of centrally managed INSPIRE registers. The content of these registers are based on the INSPIRE Directive, Implementing Rules and Technical Guidelines.

The INSPIRE Registry has been developed under Action 1.17 of the ISA Programme: ‘A Reusable INSPIRE Reference Platform’.

6.3 Registry content

INSPIRE register

application schema register

The INSPIRE application schema register contains all application schemas of the consolidated INSPIRE UML data model.

code list register

The INSPIRE code list register contains the code lists and their values, as defined in the INSPIRE implementing rules on interoperability of spatial data sets and services (Commission Regulation (EU) No 1089/2010). NOTE: It does not yet include references to external code lists and the additional code lists and extended values proposed in the Data Specification Technical Guidelines.

feature concept dictionary

The INSPIRE Feature Concept Dictionary (IFCD) acts as a common feature concept dictionary for all INSPIRE data specifications. The common feature concept dictionary contains terms and definitions required for specifying thematic spatial object types and it is main role is in particular to support the harmonisation effort and to identify conflicts between the specifications of the spatial object types in the different themes.

The INSPIRE Glossary contains general terms and definitions that specify the common terminology used in the INSPIRE Directive and in the INSPIRE Implementing Rules documents. The glossary supports the use of a consistent language in different documents when referring to the terms.

metadata codelist register

The INSPIRE metadata code list register contains the code lists and their values, as defined in the INSPIRE implementing rules on metadata (Commission Regulation (EC) No 1205/2008).

reference document register

This register provides unique identifiers for documents or parts of documents (e.g. chapters or tables) used in INSPIRE. These may include the INSPIRE legal acts, technical guidelines and other documents (e.g. documents containing code list values for externally managed INSPIRE code lists).

theme register

The INSPIRE theme register contains all spatial data themes, as defined in the Annexes of the INSPIRE Directive ( Directive 2007/2/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 March 2007 establishing an Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE)). The descriptions of the themes are based on version 3.0 of the "Definition of Annex Themes and Scope (D 2.3)" by the data specifications drafting team and subsequent updates by the INSPIRE Thematic Working Groups (TWGs).

6.4 Information model

Figure 9 shows the information model that is in principle based on ISO 19135:2005 Geographic information - Procedures for item registration and extended by custom information.

6.5 Applied standards, format – presentations

The content of the INSPIRE Registry is available in these Formats:

  • HTML: text/html
  • XML: application/xml
  • JSON: application/json
  • ATOM: application/atom+xml
  • RFD/XML: application/rdf+xml

The content of the INSPIRE Registry is multilingual available. Where content is not yet available in a specific languages, the English translation will be provided.

Language and formats are provided as individual representations according the given URI pattern and accessibly ether by direct call or by content negotiation using the format and language header of the HTTP request (e.g. Accept-Language: en, Accept: application/xml). The web interface provides language selection via a selection menu.

6.6 Referenced and managed entities

Reference to remote entities are supported by ‘externalReferenceLink’

6.7 Status codes

The INSPIRE Registry support status according the ISO/FDIS 19135-1 Geographic information - Procedures for item registration - Part 1: Fundamentals:

  • Invalid
  • Retired
  • Submitted
  • Superseded
  • Valid

Status values are provided as Code List:

6.8 Life cycle, history and versioning

The INSPIRE Registry supports life cycle according ISO/FDIS 19135-1 Geographic information - Procedures for item registration - Part 1: Fundamentals.

6.9 URI (identifier) patterns

Access to the registry content is provided by linked resources via HTTP URIs. The URI patterns supported by INSPIRE Registry are:

To access a register:

To access a register item:

To access a collection:
<base>/{collection_itemclass}/[{colelction_uriname}]/[{item_uriname}]/{item_uriname}.{ language_code}.{format}
